In Loving Memory of Louise Diggle
Courtesy The Chelsea Arts Club
The artistic community of Chelsea Art Society, and the wider family of artists among whom Louise Diggle was so well known and loved, commend her for her bravery and courage in the face of years of health challenges.
Her sheer determination and commitment to her art, despite battling cancer, enabled her to continue doing what she loved most: capturing in pastel and paint the subtleties of the “fizzing light” (her own words), and the nuances of atmosphere that inspired her so deeply.
Like her artwork, Louise was full of light. We will remember her fondly, pastel in her left hand, intently studying her subject from beneath her wide-brimmed hat. She was kind and gentle, always smiling, elegant, generous and great fun, “You could always have a giggle with Diggle!” She stood tall, and she was beautiful, inside and out. She will be sorely missed.
Her frequent visits to The Royal Marsden, where she was under the devoted care of her surgeon, who became a close personal friend, inspired her to give something back. Louise raised much-needed funds for cancer research, particularly for the Lady Garden Foundation and Friends of the Marsden. She received so much, but gave back as much as she possibly could.
Louise was an inspiration. She worked tirelessly in pursuit of excellence in her painting, and thanks to her extraordinary commitment to her art, her work can be found in collections around the world, and particularly here in Chelsea.
Louise died at her family home on Tuesday, surrounded by the family who loved her so dearly.
