Personal Statement:

'I’m an improviser at heart, fascinated by the unpredictable. My enthusiasms and obsessions have taken me on journeys of discovery from precise representation to wild abstraction. I believe in craft and technical skill as much as in the power of imagination, spontaneity and the element of surprise. I have worked in most 2D media including pastel since my school days and exclusively in pastel for the last 20 years. It’s the ideal medium for me, flexible, versatile, forgiving and fast. I teach regular pastel classes and day workshops at my Cooksbridge studio and love that almost as much as making pictures'.
