John Ivor Stewart ATD ADAE PPPS FSBA
Gained the National Diploma in Design at the Belfast College of Art in 1960 followed by the Art Teacher’s Diploma at the University of Reading in the following year.
In the early sixties spent a year travelling throughout Spain and Morocco drawing and painting.
In 1974 attended a one year course of study at the Postgraduate School of Art Education, Cardiff College of Art obtaining the Advanced Diploma in Art Education awarded by the University of Wales.
Was elected a Founder Member of the Society of Botanical Artists in 1987. The following year was elected a member of the Pastel Society where he has served as Hon Treasurer, Membership Secretary and President, currently the Education Officer.
Received the Daler-Rowney award on three occasions at Pastel Society Exhibitions held in the Mall Galleries.
Was the first recipient of the Joyce Cummings award at the Society of Botanical Artists Exhibition held at Westminster Gallery (both these galleries are in London).
Awarded the ‘Grand Prix de Peinture’ at XIe Festival European des Art et de La Poesie at La Seine-sur-Mer, Var , Provence in 1999.
Retired from full-time teaching in 1990.
